2010 cadillac srx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new crossover has new roots. introductionthe 2010 cadillac srx is all-new for the 2010 model year. there's nothing left of the original srx but the name. Whereas the original srx used a rear-wheel-drive platform with a longitudinal engine and a choice of v6 or v8, the new version is built on a front-wheel-drive platform with a transverse-mounted v6 engine. where the old srx was a three-row, seven-seat suv, the new one has two rows and five seats. And, although gm has been known for its global platform-sharing way of doing things, this vehicle shares its underpinnings with only one other vehicle, the saab 9-4x, which has not been introduced yet. the exterior design is all new, crisper and sharper than the original, with a lot less of the slab-sided look. The interior shares much of its technology and some of its design with the 2010 cadillac cts sedan, which we count as a good thing. the cadillac puts the srx in the midsize luxury sport utility vehicle segment, one of the largest and fastest-growing segments in the industry at about 25 percent of the total sales. Cadillac counts as the srx's direct competitors the acura mdx, lexus rx 350, mercedes-benz glk, audi q5, and bmw x3. initially, all srx models will be powered by a 3. 0-liter v6 engine, the same engine that powers the cadillac cts, and will come with a hydra-matic six-speed automatic transmission. Though loaded with features, everything is easy to use and the srx is very quiet underway. underway, the handling and braking are very good. The new srx feels like a high-riding cts sports sedan. We preferred the responsiveness of the 20-inch wheels and tires over the standard 18-inch setup. we found the engine lacking in power and on the loud side. The 3. 0-liter v6 gets an epa-rated 18/25 mpg with front-wheel drive. the available haldex ii all-wheel-drive system is excellent, among the world's best. It makes the srx highly capable in the winter or on unpaved roads or when encountering a slippery corner. All come with anti-lock brakes (abs), traction control, stabilitrak yaw control, onstar emergency notification. walkaroundcadillac's latest designs are all full of sharp edges and well-defined creases, and the new srx is no different in that respect. The 2010 cadillac srx looks very much part of the family, and is far less slab-sided than the outgoing truck. its design impact starts with a jutting, pointed nose, very complex headlamps, and a racy, rounded lower spoiler with a large air intake for engine cooling. The side window treatment ends in a forward-slanted d-pillar leading to the cadillac trademark knife-sharp vertical taillamps. all in all, it's a very pleasing, crisp and modern design on a chassis that is nearly six inches shorter than the original srx, with a 4. 6-inch shorter overall length, and a 2. 1-inch lower roofline. But is also about an inch wider, allowing for more interior comfort and more shoulder and hip room. the srx features a power liftgate that can be set for full opening, or programmed for three-quarter opening to keep the sheetmetal safe in low-roofed garages and parking structures. interiorloaded is too weak a word for the interior accoutrements of the new 2010 cadillac srx. Most models will have an enormous list of standard equipment including pushbutton starting, a tilt-and-telescope steering column, upper and lower adjustable ambient lighting. Available are adaptive headlights, a huge, two-segment power sunroof with 95-percent uv protection, a power tailgate, a full-color driver information center between the main gauges, onstar, and satellite navigation with voice recognition. audio entertainment starts with a radio system with 2-gigabyte memory that will download up to 20 cds to its memory through a single-cd loader. When up, the rear cargo area holds 29. 2 cubic feet of cargo, and when folded down, the seatbacks lock into place to create a nearly flat load floor and space for more than 61 cubic feet of cargo (compared to 32. 4 cubic feet and 69. 5 cubic feet for the previous three-row srx). The cargo area behind the second seat features an under-floor storage area for precious cargoes and a u-shaped channel built into the floor that accepts any number of sliding hold-down cleats. It makes more power at higher rpm than the 3. 6-liter engine it replaces, but substantially less peak torque. Power, torque and acceleration were all on par with everything else in the class, but many v6 and i6 entries sound better than this in light-throttle acceleration and cruise modes. This smaller engine is way down on useable torque compared to the larger, outgoing 3. 6-liter engine, an apparent tradeoff for mileage. The transmission dithered here and there, especially on the 2-1 downshift, but was always ready for full-throttle upshifts. driving dynamics of the new srx are very, very good in terms of handling and braking, helped by the fact that this truck is 1. 2 inches lower to the ground than the older, larger srx. The base srx and the luxury versions have power steering for their 18-inch wheels and tires, but the performance and premium versions come with a completely different zf variable-ratio power steering system that's better matched to the 20-inch tires and feels quicker and more sporty out there on the road. a sport mode for the transmission on the performance and premium models allows for semi-manual shifting. And when the shift lever is eased to the left, not only the transmission but also the real-time-damping suspension programming changes instantly and stiffens the shock absorber.

2013 cadillac xts review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new full-size luxury sedan is roomy and composed. introductioncadillac is introducing a new full-size sedan for 2013. The 2013 cadillac xts fills a hole left in the cadillac lineup since production of the sts and dts ended a couple of years ago. In their place is the 2013 cadillac xts, a roomy cruiser that shows off the latest technology, upgraded interior materials and a refined cadillac design. exterior styling on the cadillac xts is bold, but softer than on other models we've seen from the brand in the past few years. Also notable is the use of premium interior materials, such as leather upholstery as standard equipment, as well as a fully configurable electronic tft (thin-film transistor) instrument cluster in front of the driver. the cadillac xts is the first model to use cue, an acronym for cadillac user experience. The system features a large touchscreen and uses proximity sensors, haptic feedback and voice recognition to control phone, audio and navigation functions. Cue comes standard on all xts models, but navigation costs extra on the two lower trim levels. To sweeten the deal, cadillac is including an ipad with all new xts purchases, pre-loaded with an app that helps owners learn how to use the cue system. underneath the new wrappings are decidedly familiar components. Namely, general motors' premium epsilon platform, originally developed by opel and used in several variations on gm vehicles worldwide, including the current buick lacrosse. The 2013 cadillac xts is powered by gm's much-used 3. 6-liter, naturally aspirated v6 engine found on other cadillac and chevrolet models. Same goes for the 6-speed automatic transmission. the new cadillac xts is longer than the old sts, shorter than the dts, though the xts rides on a much shorter wheelbase (111. 7 inches). The xts is slightly wider than the sts but 2 inches narrower than the dts. The front seats in the new xts are slightly roomier than those in the sts and dts. the 3. 6-liter v6 in the new xts delivers 304 horsepower at 6800 rpm, 264 pound-feet of torque at 5200 rpm. That's similar to the output of the old sts v6 model. Fuel economy in the cadillac xts is an epa-estimated 17/28 miles per gallon city/highway. And it retails for much less than comparable models from bmw, mercedes-benz, audi, lexus, and hyundai, making it a compelling value. lineupthe 2013 cadillac xts comes standard with front-wheel drive and is available with all-wheel drive (awd). The optional driver awareness package and driver assist package add safety features that can help a driver avoid or reduce the severity of a crash. The optional rearview camera can help the driver spot a child behind the car when backing up. Optional all-wheel drive can improve handling stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundwhile it retains styling cues that are distinctly cadillac, the new cadillac xts exterior is softer and more refined than other models in the lineup. Sleeker lines are favored over razor-sharp creases and angles. Headlamps appear more stretched back than on the smaller cadillac cts. And the shape of the front grille gives the xts an expression that's more agreeable than angry. in back, the rear is crisp and tidy, keeping the signature cadillac vertical tail lamps without looking too busy. All models above the base trim have a dual exhaust integrated into the rear fascia for an even cleaner look. but one could never dismiss the xts as demure. It still sports plenty of bling, like polished chrome trim around windows, doors and deck lid that glisten in the sun. Not to mention the expansive chromed grille. Paired with its cadillac badge, the face of the xts is unmistakable as a cadillac in a rearview mirror. interiorlike other cadillac interiors, materials on the xts are high-quality and luxurious. Front seats make driver and passenger feel like each is in her own compartment, flanked by cubbies and an armrest at one hand, and a center console with high sides on the other. leather seating surfaces are soft and supple, although we found the seats somewhat uncomfortable for those smaller in stature. A long seat cushion prevents the knees from fully bending on anyone shorter than 5-feet, 5 inches, and the wide seatbacks are best suited to football players or lumberjacks. Those who are tall or who require plenty of space will have no problem fitting in a cadillac xts. on base and luxury models, an analog instrument cluster with electronic driver information center sits in front of the driver. On premium and platinum trims, a re-configurable tft (thin-film transistor) display comes standard. It is both novel and useful, but those who prefer a good old-fashioned needle are relegated to the lower trims. at the heart of the xts cabin is the cue system with its 8-inch touchscreen. While past cadillac models were fraught with an overwhelming number of buttons on the center stack, cue drastically cuts down the number of controls to just a handful. Voice recognition systems can be painfully inaccurate (just ask anyone with the latest iphone), but cue's is no short of impressive. One of these is that the xts uses physical buttons for both fan speed and temperature on the center stack for the climate control system. Another thing that annoyed us was the barrage of fingerprints that appeared on the screen after just a few minutes of use. To make matters worse, we caught a lot of glare due to the screen's glossy finish and its angle, which reflected the sunlight coming in from the translucent sunroof cover. When combined with the fingerprints, we found the touchscreen difficult to read. The xts does come with a microfiber cleaning cloth, but it's not an elegant solution. Rear seats have up to 40 inches of legroom, as long as the driver and front passenger don't mind their seats being all the way forward. Rear seats also split 60/40, making it possible to carry plenty of luggage and other gear. driving impressionthe chassis of the cadillac xts is incredibly stable and composed, even around twisty canyon corners.
